A New Song - Book Reading and Discussion
"That We May Get To Know One Another:
Muslims, Jews, and the Making of the Novel A New Song."
The national trauma of 9/11 caused many to question the value and place of religion in the world today. What good is it, if it can incite war, atrocity, and the murder of innocents? This question initiated a ten year journey for physician Tricia Hellman Gibbs, who at the time felt herself entirely unreligious and unconnected with any particular faith or tradition. Gibbs discovered her roots in Judaism and also began an intensive study of Islam. Her recently published novel, A New Song, is the result of this research and her conclusion that there is inestimable value to be gained from knowing one's own faith and also from studying the faith of another.
Dr. Gibbs will discuss her journey back to Judaism and love of Torah, her discoveries in the study of Quran and Islam, her choice of pen name, and topics related to interfaith study. She will discuss selections from Torah and Quran, and read from A New Song.
Light refreshments will be served.
